Tips for Maintaining Colored Hair

It’s a sad fact that your colored hair never looks as bold and bright as it does when you walk out of the salon. Each time you wash your hair, the color fades a little more, and you may start counting down the days until you can go back to the salon for a touch-up. In today’s post, we will provide you with a few tips you can use to maintain your hair color and keep it looking salon-fresh as long as possible.

If you’re looking to change your hair, whether you want to cut it, dye it, or just get a trim, look no further than dsparada Color Salon in Raleigh. Our expert color artists have years of experience in the hair industry, and we will do our best to give you a look that you will love. Give us a call today to schedule a haircut and color, and be sure to keep reading below for a few tips on how to maintain your color.

Don’t Wash for 72 Hours

Three days may seem like a long time to go without washing your hair, but if you wash your hair too soon after the color is applied, there’s a risk that it may fade quicker than you would like. To combat days where your hair might look a little dirty, we recommend using a dry shampoo that is safe for color-treated hair. Once the 72 hours are up, you can wash your hair using color-safe shampoo and conditioner.

Wash With Cooler Water

While hot water may feel better on your skin, especially on a colder day, using steaming hot water is not always the best option for your hair. Extremely hot water can dry out your hair, and if you have color-treated hair, it can also fade your color. To help maintain your color, it’s recommended that you shower with cooler water. We’re not saying you have to take cold showers. Instead, avoid the steaming hot shower in favor of water that is more on the lukewarm side.

Avoid Heat

Similarly to how a hot shower can fade your color more quickly, using hot styling tools on your hair can also make the color fade faster than you would like. Hot tools can be damaging to your hair regardless of whether or not it’s colored, and we recommend avoiding them if you can. That being said, avoiding heated styling tools altogether isn’t necessary, but if you do use them, consider using a heat protectant spray prior to styling your hair. As the name suggests, a heat protectant spray can protect your hair from heated styling tools, avoiding damage and color loss!
